During this session we will share our evolving vision on teaching Global Citizenship from the viewpoint of our personal experiences with an interculturally diverse student population in a UNESCO - associated program “International Educating Class”. We will discuss the importance of power skills like vulnerability, authenticity, empathy and empowerment and explain how we believe that these skills are necessary to reach the SDG’s. Participants will also be invited to share their own experiences, positive stories and challenges in an exercise in appreciative inquiry. Session leaders discuss the importance of vulnerability, authenticity, empathy and empowerment as necessary skills to achieve the SDGs. Delegates learn how to educate for sustainable development and peacebuilding through an action-oriented learning approach that combines personal experiences and stories, theory, interactive reflections and opportunities to engage in real world activities and intercultural encounters with a focus on exploration and imagination. This transformative pedagogy, which supports self-directed learning, participation and collaboration, helps students gain a deeper insight in what it means to be a global citizen and a navigator for peace.
